At Home In Japan: For those of you who are planning to stay with a host family, here is a neat website that may prepare you for your stay. It’s a little slow paced, but very thorough.

Denshi Jisho: Some of you probably already know about this one. It’s just a really good Japanese-English dictionary. Gives you the kanji and the hiragana for words, lets you know which words are commonly used, lets you look up kanji by the radial and number of strokes, etc.

Tae Kim’s Guide to Japanese Grammar: Why does Japanese sound like Yoda speech? This site does a great job of breaking down and explaining the fundamentals of Japanese grammar.

Smart.fm: Great for cramming vocab. You can even find lists made for specifically for the vocabulary straight out of the Genki books.

Lang 8: Here you can write entries in Japanese (or any language you’re learning), and native speakers will read your post and correct your entries. You can also correct people’s English entries in exchange.

The Economist: Country Briefings – Japan: This is great for all you poli sci nerds out there, or if you’re just a interested in getting up-to-date on Japan’s governmental structure, current events, history, etc.

Cooking With Dog: If you’re interested in learning how to cook Japanese food, this channel has a lot of yummy recipes.

Nihongo-Juku: This is an amazing sight for intermediate and advanced students learning Japanese who want to improve their reading skills. It posts short articles in Japanese accompanied by corresponding vocabulary lists as well as the audio version of the article. Freaking amazing!
